Absolutely Essential for Any Serious Drone Pilot
When I first got into flying drones, I thought a landing pad was an unnecessary add-on. Fast forward through years of flying and a few hard-learned lessons, and now I wouldn’t even think of heading out without my Hoodman Weighted Drone Launch Pad. Here’s why it’s worth every cent:1) Keeps Your Drone Clean and Protected – There’s nothing worse than dirt, gravel, or other debris getting kicked into your drone’s motors or camera lens. I learned this the tough way when a small rock led to a maintenance headache I’d rather forget. This landing pad? Game changer. It provides a solid, clean surface wherever I am—grassy fields, gravel lots, you name it. And those weighted edges? They stay put, even in wind gusts.2) Precision Landings Made Easy- If you’ve ever nervously watched your drone attempt a landing on rough ground, you’ll know what I mean. The Hoodman’s bold orange and black design is a standout. My drone locks onto it without hesitation, which means less stress and more flight time. Bonus: the pad’s high visibility is a lifesaver during late-day flights or night operations when every detail matters. It pops well in the LED landing lights, as well.3) A Subtle “Keep Clear” Signal – This one surprised me. Any time I’m flying in a public space, curious onlookers always inch closer than I’d like. But with this pad, the message is clear: this is a designated launch site, and it exudes a professional, “hands-off” vibe. It’s like having a built-in barrier that says, “This pilot’s got it under control.”The Hoodman Landing Pad isn’t just another accessory—it’s essential gear. It’s that one piece of equipment that, once you start using it, you wonder how you managed without. If you’re serious about smooth, safe, and stress-free flying, do yourself a favor and get one. Trust me, you won’t look back.

Well made, rugged, and very visible from the air. If you’re serious about drones, this is the one.
I have both the medium and the large diameter version of these pads and though they seem pricey compared to many other choices, I haven’t regretted the purchase of either one iota. When I’m flying the little Mavic 3 Pro, the smaller pad is more than sufficient for my needs. The larger one gets used when I fly the big Matrice 210 V210. They are easy to see and are very helpful calibrating your RTH fix as you begin your flight. The cameras are able lock in on the contrast of this pad easily making pinpoint landings as easy as pie. I fly in dusty conditions more often than not, this pad really helps to keep my birds and the cameras free of unwanted debris which is a big deal to me, especially with the big drone and the high dollar optics onboard. The setup couldn’t be easier, just pull it from the well made nylong carry bag and it pretty much unfolds itself whether you’re ready or not! Getting it back in the bag is really easy once you figure out the method. I have a lot of portable photographic shades and difusers, but this uses a slightly different technique to fold it properly. So, read the instructions, or better yet, watch it done on a video and you’ll figure it out pretty quick. Otherwise you will look like a goober flailing about and attracting the unwanted attention of everybody from miles around. (Don’t ask how I know that) It’s super stable on the ground even in really gusty wind conditions – like the ones you probably shouldn’t be flying in – which is another advantage of it’s stout build and heavy weight. The very first portable drone/heli pad I tried blew away on me at the first wind gust. I didn’t even notice during flight, that’s how I ended up with these. Well made, rugged and easily visible from the air. It’s a really good choice if you’re serious about flying your drones and you’ll look more professional too.

Worth every dime!
Don’t let the price tag scare you. You might think you can do without this drone mat but if you fly professionally or travel to locations specifically to fly, photograph and film, but this is THE BEST quality you can find. The durable material feels like heavy canvas treated with some kind of moisture proofing. The weighted edges stay down in high winds and the bright orange color is easy to spot in any condition. It protects your drone and gimbal from fine dust, moisture, dirt, mud and tall grass. There’s no doubt it will last. The only con is learning how to fold it properly. It takes some practice but it’s so worth it!

Fantastic value and a must for the Mavic 2 pro as it will prevent dust and dirt near the gimble.Fun to try and fold too.

Doesn’t blow around. Perfect for a DJI Mavic 3. It really is a must have if you’re doing any commercial work. I guess you’d get the 5-footer if you have a Matrice-sized drone.Folds up to a size that doesn’t take up much room!
