Great camera with great features for a good price.
I like that this line of mirrorless cameras is lightweight and is relatively compact compared to a digital DLR. As with many of the newer digital cameras the 6400 shoots beautiful video and I am especially happy with it having a stereo mini input that would allow use of high end microphones. The camera is light years ahead of the bulky cameras I used to use on commercial field shoots. Aspiring videographers don’t know how lucky they are to have tools like this at their disposal at such a low cost. Not only is the video stellar, the stills are too. I love the continuous shooting mode when shooting wildlife. Sony has a great lineup of lenses to pair with the camera and other lens manufacturers are developing lenses for the Sony E Mount cameras as well.

    Great camera
I love this camera. Light weight, and takes great photos. I love Sony. I usually shoot with my A7iv, but wanted this for my street setup. You can’t go wrong with this if you’re on a budget, but want quality photos. Pair this body with a Tamron lens, and you’re good to go for low $$.

It has a million features, almost too many.
I have so much to say about this camera. I will try to keep it short.• I hate the color coming straight out of the camera. (Greenish and off) My Canon is superior.• 10 different picture profile with unlimited options include flat profiles. Almost too many!• Low light video quality is great. The best under a thousand dollars.• Auto focus is amazing• Size and weight is life changing for travel.• Not easy to use. Still trying to figure it out 7 months later.• Touch screen sucks, except for touch focus.• Rolling shutter is TERRIBLE in 4k.• 4k is great if the camera and subject is perfectly still. But the rolling shutter is jello pudding.• No headphone jack but the audio level do help.If you want to upgrade your camera under $1000 buy this! If you want a simple camera to use, don’t buy it.

For a Stationary Video Camera: A+
The a6400 is an amazing b-camera (secondary camera). I use it for a 2nd or 3rd angle when filming. The 4K 8-bit image you get is excellent. Find a good angle, set the camera up, and forget it. There is no recording time limit and the autofocus is fantastic. If you want to use manual focus, buy a small monitor and you’re set. Yes, there are other cameras that are slightly better. But are they $900? No, and their benefits will probably not be worth the 2-5x price tags they command. I recommend getting a USB battery and a cage to attach it to, so you never run out of power. The only problem you might have is if it’s 100 degrees, I don’t know if it will run for an hour continuously. And if you want to move around with the camera, use a gimbal.

    Solid Entry-Level Camera
The Sony Alpha a6400 is a solid entry-level option. I bought it thinking it would be amazing for my sports photography, and while it was good, it wasn’t great.Pros:Good for Landscapes and Portraits: This camera excels in capturing beautiful landscapes and portraits.Compact and Lightweight: Easy to carry around, making it great for travel and on-the-go shooting.User-Friendly: Perfect for beginners or those new to mirrorless cameras.Cons:Not Ideal for Sports Photography: I realized this after upgrading to the Sony A7iii, which is much better suited for fast-paced action shots.Overall, the Sony Alpha a6400 is a great entry-level camera, especially for landscapes and portraits. It’s a reliable and user-friendly option for those starting out in photography.

    Best camera I’ve owned
I’m not a professional photographer or even a huge camera buff, but I take my fair share of photos and videos. For a particular class project, I needed to be able to record a video longer than 30 minutes and this camera has no recording time limit, unlike most, so I decided to spring for it. I ended up getting 35mm and 50mm Sony prime lenses, for general photos and portraits respectively, along with a Sony 18-105mm zoom lens. All have OSS (Optical Steady Shot), which helps a lot with image stability. After using this camera for a month, I can say this is easily the best camera I’ve ever owned. Pictures taken in low light are amazing and detailed. There are a lot of features and things to learn about the camera, so I suggest going to YouTube to check out a detailed tutorial and you’ll be quickly on your way. If you’re considering purchasing this camera, my advice is go for it.

This is one of few APS-C that does eye AF for humans and animals, which is exactly what I need and why I bought it.I wanted a camera that’s small and lightweight for taking pictures of my dog on the walk/hike. Yeah, this is my ‘dog cam’. Without IBIS can be an issue for some but most of my lenses either have the build-it image stabilizer or prime lenses with f1.4/1.8 wide open aperture, so getting reasonable shutter speed is relatively easy. The high ISO performance of this camera is only mediocre.Surprisingly, I think Sony’s menu system is great. I use the customized menu most of the time but I also never had issues finding a setting from the menu system, at least it’s not better/worse than Nikon and Canon, and it is a lot less confusing compared to Fuji’s menu, which is the worst IMO.Here are some tips for getting the most out of the A6400:1. Turn off the Picture Profile when shooting still.2. Only shoot with manual exposure, manual WB. AUTO WB is all over the place when shooting outdoors.3. Can’t trust EVF or the screen, learn to read the histogram.4. Shooting with MF lenses should pair with external monitor.5. Get good lenses and fast lenses to avoid boosting ISO beyond 1600.* Spare batteriesFor video:1. Only shoot with manual exposure, manual focus and manual WB.2. Use HLG if you are not good with colour grading, or SLOG-2 if you are. Adobe PP has the colour banding issue with SLOG-2 when pushing too far, Davinci Resolve 17 does it better.3. Make sure to turn on Project Color Management in Davinci Resolve and use Wide Colour Gamma.4. Get a good gimbal and forget about IBIS.5. Rig it out to shoot handheld and forget about IBIS.6. Use an external monitor.7. Spare batteries/dummy battery with an external battery pack.Get out and take some pictures and stop worrying about the features you don’t have.Enjoy your A6400!
