When using Apple Home – can I combine Matter and HomeKit-enabled accessories in an automation or scene?

Yes you can. For automations, Apple Home makes no difference whether your devices were added to your home through HomeKit or Matter.

Does Eve Energy Outlet have an onboard switch?

Yes. The little green LEDs are buttons that you simply press. Eve Energy Outlet can be operated like a regular switch.

Eve Energy Outlet is a Full Thread Device (FTD) – but what does that mean?

Mains-powered Full Thread Devices (or FTDs) that are always on can act as routers within your Thread network and relay data packets. The more of these FTDs you have in your network, the more stable & greater its reach becomes.

Can I control the two outlets individually?

Yes, you can – either by voice, app or manually via the control buttons on the device. While controlling the outlets can be done individually, power consumption is measured and displayed as a combined value of both outlets.

Individually control two power outlets using your voice or an app, and control your lights and appliances on the go or based on presence.

Great smart outlet that seamlessly fits in our home
The Eve Energy Outlet is a perfect smart outlet that is a great choice if you are looking to add smart features to any outlet. The setup is extremely easy as with any Eve product, and I love that the outlet is easily controlled from my Apple Home app. Since this outlet is Matter compatible, it can seamlessly work with other smart home environments too, such as Alexa and Google Home. For set up, all you have to do is scan the QR code on the packaging and the device automatically add itself to your home app of choice.I was very impressed by the responsiveness of this outlet. The outlet contains the new Thread protocol, meaning it can quickly communicate with your smart home and other smart home devices without depending on your home Wi-Fi signal. This is great as I have used other smart plugs in the past that were slow to respond, making the experience frustrating. With Thread, you forget that your switch is a smart switch as controlling it is so quick.Another great feature about this switch is that you can pair it with other smart home accessories. I have an Eve Light Switch and Eve Motion Sensor. With the light switch, I can easily control the outlet like a conventional switched outlet, allowing myself and guests to easily control the lamp plugged into the outlet. But with the smart switch functionality, I also have the light programmed turn on and off when I am away from the house to make it look like I am home. Additionally, with the Eve Motion Sensor, I have setup an automation that turns on the outlet that the lamp is connected to, when motion is detected in the room. This has made my house feel so nice as I am always greeted to a bright room, and do not have to worry about turning on and off the lights.Overall, I highly recommend this smart outlet if you are in the market for one. Eve has been consistently reliable and has created many high quality smart products that I will continue to recommend.

Excellent product, but read on for some possible issues
I put this in our kitchen to control our hot water kettle. I am using Home Assistant.Edit: Eve is becoming my go-to brand for Matter over Thread and I have 5 of these outlets. All connected easily and they do their job. The comments below still stand, but I want to emphasize how bright the LEDs are. As a quick hack I added 4 layers of blue painters tape over the LEDs, but a single LED still lights up our bedroom more than we like at night.Physical installation: Like most smart switches and outlets this is quite bulky, compared to traditional electrical devices. Because multiple 12-gauge wires are connected in this particular outlet box, it was a tight fit. In fact I’m not sure I could have gotten it flush with the wall, but this area has had tile added, making the space deeper. Other than the bulk issue, it was easy enough. The pigtail wires are probably coated copper, not aluminum as one reviewer stated.Connectivity: The little manual has the QR code on the back and there is another copy on the front of the outlet behind the cover plate. This was my first Matter-over-Thread device, so it took a while to get the border router right, but that is not a complaint about this product. Once that was right, the outlet took only seconds to commission and it immediately appeared in my Home Assistant app. I have already ordered more.Just one remaining complaint. The status LEDs cannot be disabled without using additional proprietary (Apple) products. They are quite bright, so that would be a problem for any bedroom outlets which need to be left on at night.Power control and automation are working perfectly.

Best Offering of Its Type-For Now…
I’ll start out by stating that virtually every light at my home, both indoor and outdoor is controlled by Lutron Caséta light switches. As someone who has run HomeKit in three different homes over nearly 10 years, and installed no fewer than 4 homes for others my first HomeKit devices were Lutron Caséta.Why am I discussing Lutron Caseta in a review of an Eve Home outlet? Because as far as I am concerned, with literally tens of thousands of dollars spent on mainly HomeKit smart home technology I can unequivocally state that Caséta has been the shining beacon of stability, usability, quality and reliability in every smart home I have ever owned or built out for others. It just works. And it fits into my idea of what a smart home set up should be: It should allow advanced control and automation, while fitting into a modern and seamless aesthetic, and being “non-tech” friendly. In other words people who do not live in your home on a daily basis should be able to use it easily, and they shouldn’t be able to mess things up.There’s one glaring weakness to the Caséta system in my view: The lack of a wall outlet. Their lamp plug/dimmer is the opposite of what the rest of the lineup brings. It’s a big, ugly wart on the outside of the wall, and it doesn’t have the ability to control two devices independently. In the near decade I have been using their products I have waited hopefully and anxiously for the announcement that I now fear may never come: An in-wall outlet. In the meantime I have tried multiple other options. My first discovery was the iDevices wall outlet, and at first I thought I had found a good alternative option. It seemed to be pretty stable, ran on WiFi transport instead of the notoriously inconsistent bluetooth, and the company seemed to be serious about being a quality player in the field of consumer level smart home products. Then Hubbell bought them. The turn into the ditch was not sudden. It took a while for the car to gradually veer off the road. But eventually poor support, disastrous updates (or none at all) and utter unreliability forced me to look elsewhere.I reluctantly and desparately looked at the Leviton D215R-2RW. While it had a few issues, including the fact only one of the two outlets on the plate is smart, and the fact that Leviton is just never quite “there” when it comes to design and reliability I was desperate to get an outlet that would actually work when I needed it, something the iDevices had stopped being. So I replaced my iDevices with three of the Leviton outlets. Set up, especially on the first one (before some firmware updates that came later) was a bit of challenge. Their app was far too involved in the process, and it took more than two tries to get it attached to my WiFi. Eventually I reached a détente with the three Levitons in my home, and they were working well enough. Until they weren’t. Frustrations resulted. The pain of moving furniture and lying on the floor in dark corners to reboot and factory reset outlets returned. Damn you Lutron! Why are you leaving me to deal with these pretenders? This market is yours to own!I own some Eve products, and while not perfect (especially the maddening motion sensors) the lineup is generally reliable and of decent quality. So when a Thread version of a wall outlet was released I decided to give it a try. I installed one yesterday, and so far so good. This is the first device I have added to my HomeKit setup as a Matter install, and it was just as seamless as any native HomeKit setup I’ve ever done.I knocked off a star for the stupid wall plate branding and the green bug eye lights on the front. I use Lutron Claro plates throughout my home, so the branding wasn’t a huge deal. But because of the fact that I wasn’t going to have Eve plastered on my wall plates I ended up tossing an otherwise perfectly good wall plate. I would have rather it just not have one from the factory and knock $5 or so from the price. And while you can configure the ugly and distracting green lights to stay off permanently they’re still clearly visible even when off, taking away from the desired discreet aesthetic. I do like the fact that each one I install will give me another Thread router on the mesh. So, we will see how these hold up over time. I have already ordered a second one, and I have some hope. But if Lutron ever hears their customers and releases a Caséta in-wall…

2 stars because it works as a basic matter-capable app/hub controllable dual outlet.-3 stars because…1. The dual hyper-green LEDs are far, far too bright. They should be muted, not lighting up a dark room.2. Far worse, I could not get the outlet to operate as a thread router – even though it is advertised as supporting routing. I have multiple Eve’s plug-in single outlet thread/matter plugs, and they ALL route nearby wless matter devices just fine. In fact, I even plugged in one of the Eve plug-in thread/matter plugs INTO the Eve dual outlut that I had hooked up, and when I reset a nearby wless matter device that device was (as expected) routed via the Eve plug-in. Removing the Eve plug-in , leaving just the Eve dual-outlet, and resetting the wless device, would NOT route the wless matter device through the Eve output – multiple tries. Yes, the Eve dual-plug output is showing up on my devices list – no errors – and it can be controlled from App.3. Possibly 2. is caused by old f/w on the outlet device – unsure. But after being on my network for >24 hours the outlet device does not indicate a need for f/w updating.Eve plug-in outlets are working great for me, unfortunately their fully installable 2-plug outlet is not up to the same levels of performance. Returned as not functioning as advertised.

I didn’t even install it. The Eve doesn’t have brass connectors, it has the stranded aluminum connections that that are common with fan controllers, lights, timed switches, etc. This is too cheap for something that could be carrying 1800W, especially at this price point.Returned.
