Great Value
I bought this months ago, but amazon showed it in my history and I had not written a review for a product(s) I like and use daily. But as a 30 year IT person, I often have needs to find cheap PCs either for clients or myself at home.Earlier this year I was in the market for a miniPC, as I wanted to use it as a server for my home network (running linux). Its me, so I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, but wanted something decent, that I could upgrade. I’m familiar with this product line, as these are business grade computers, so I’ve used this specific model at companies (when these were new). In short, HP G-series PCs are pretty reliable, and last longer than their home ones. So no surprise they are for sale as refurbished on here.I was comparing a Dell of similar spec to this one, but this one just won out for price point for what I was getting. I liked them so much, I bought two of them. One for the server, and one to use as spare testing Windows machine that didn’t take up a ton of space (and wasn’t a laptop).Full Disclosure, I added a 500GB SSD NVMe M.2 drive as the boot drive, so your results may vary in terms of speed. But I will say, it was speedy with the stock drive that came with it (see below)Here’s what I liked..- First off, who it came from. I was pleasantly surprised that the Amazon Certified Reseller that this came from (as the box said) is a company I know from my IT experience for decades. While they are a business2business company, many HP (and Dell) PCs I bought over the years, came from this company. So I know they know what they are doing. However, I can’t say yours will come from this place, but have hopes that others are as high calibre as this one since they would be Amazon-certified also.- This thing is small, its no bigger than a standard mouse pad.- It’s very clean, it almost looked new. No dents, scratches, or dings. The inside was spotless and the CPU had been remounted with fresh paste!- Its powerful. I’ve done some hard video encoding and testing, and it just purrs along, and this was still with the included 500GB drive!- It’s quiet, unless I’m chewing the processor up with something the fans spin up. But even then it is not as loud as my desktop workstation (an HP also!).- It’s an energy sipper. I connected a power meter to it for a month, it used so little power (vs my desktop)- Processor speed is pretty speedy and windows preinstall is pretty zippy on it- This model has 16GB of ram which is plenty of ram these days for most applications- Two drive support. This can take 2 drives, a 2.5″ SATA drive & a NVMe M.2 2280 drive (just add a screw!)- Plenty of USB 3.0 , 2 USB Type A (flat plug) and 1 USB-C in the front and 4 USB Type A ports in the back- 2 Displayport ports for dual monitor support and a VGA port- Onboard 10/100 ethernet & audio- This specific renewed model comes with a Windows 10 Pro license! (some do not!)- If you’re security minded, this does come with TMP 1.0 and other UEFI related security tools.- Since this is an HP Business PC, spare parts and support are easy to find and locate. Everything is HP standard, well tested, and made for years of reliability.Here’s what I thought was “meh”- Because its tiny, the power supply is a brick on a cord. Not a big deal and the cord from the brick to the PC is long, but the brick itself has to be put somewhere vs a straight cord.- This model does not come with WiFi or the antenna kit. The MiniPCIe slot exists though so Wifi can be added later and it’s not a show stopper for me as these will be hard wired.Here’s what I didn’t like..None. I do not have any huge things I do not like about this product, other than my meh. I’m extremely pleased with this product!Overall, as stated above, I’m extremely pleased with this product. Add a NVMe M.2 drive as your boot drive and you will be screaming for a low low price.

for the price, it works fine, it came with windows 11 already installed, smaller than the computer that died.

Good value but slow
A decent little computer for the price, but it boots very slowly and every action to open a new application is also very slow. I think it needs more memory than the 16GB it came with. But it’s in my radio shack (I’m a ham), and I don’t use it for very much or very often these days. I think it’s a good value as my sixth computer in two houses. I mainly got it to use Windows 11 since Win 10 is no longer supported.

I got what I needed, but it did require some work.
I ordered two of these. They were advertised as being refurbished by a certified refurbisher. These were going to be put in use as a continuous operation thin client, so i decided to double check the condition of the internals. I opened the case and on both units, the hard drive was installed incorrectly, and both were missing hard drive mount grommets. I pulled the heat sinks off the processors to check thermal paste. on the first, only 75% of the processor had contact with the heat sink from thermal paste, and the silicon thermal pads were falling apart and missing in some places. On the second unit, it appeared that thermal paste was applied by a stencil, however only about 50% of the processor was making contact because the heat sink was installed incorrectly, and the mounting screws were cross threaded into the chassis. This unit also had degraded silicon pads. I corrected the issues myself and put these in service. They are functioning well. Had this been left as provided, hot spots on the processors would have significantly impacted performance and shortened the life of the processors.I did reach out to the seller and was offered a return authorization. I let them know that I corrected the issue, and it was pretty much left at that. I guess I expected something to cover my efforts to correct their failed attempt at refurbishing. I did ask if thermal management was something they addressed in their refurbishment process and did not get an answer on that. Being that I ordered 2, and both were in poor condition, I suspect this is the level of quality that can be expected.I realize these are older units, and I would fully expect this quality from a private seller or surplus purchase, but I specifically ordered refurbished units to ensure they would serve the purpose I needed. I still think I got a good deal with this purchase, but understand, you will need some level of technical capabilities to ensure these meet the needs you have. Always check, because the issues above would quickly render these paperweights. Had these failed due to me not checking, the rating would have been 1 star, but because i was able to catch this ahead of failure, I saved the seller 2 stars on this review.

Slow, slow, slow
This is the slowest pc I’ve ever experienced – a real piece of junk. If you are looking at these mini pcs, buy a Lenovo. My last one is great- just has Windows 10 – but you can get one with 11. Stay clear of HP- my 15 year old HP laptop is faster but it is slow too.
