Solid performance, clear sound, good headset
Out of the box, the receiver immediately feels solid and well-built, thanks to its full-metal chassis. Everything was neatly packaged and clearly labeled, like all of their products. The system includes bodypacks, headsets, lavalier microphones, antennas, rack hardware, cabling, and AA batteries. I literally opened up the packaging (Pictures included) and plugged it into our rig.The setup was straightforward. Powering on the receiver and bodypacks, the units paired automatically with no manual syncing required. Frequency selection was easy. We were up and running in minutes. I wanted to test out the headset as I was keen to try this as a drummer.The Headset was very stable, did not shift, slide, or loosen during playing, and remained comfortable throughout use. It is very adjustable and stayed exactly where it was set, even with constant head movement. For a drummer, that level of stability is key to me, having tried several before. Also, a small thing, but for me, it wasn’t heavy or irritating, as I wear eyeglasses; this was a bonus.The audio quality was clear and consistent, with no dropouts or distortion. Just as significantly, the system did not interfere with any of our existing wireless gear. Our setup includes multiple wireless microphones, five band members on Phenyx-Pro wireless IEMs, wireless guitar and bass systems, and a wireless digital soundboard. Adding this system introduced no noise, no cross-talk, and no interference. This was a definite benefit for me, as there is a lot going on in our band’s wireless system; it’s not always easy to achieve a clean sound.We tested this system during a full practice, and I have also tested it in announcements and spoken word applications. It is now part of my arsenal for live performances and local events where hands-free microphones are required. I like having both a headset and a lavalier. Often, my PA equipment is used by community organizations for events that require speakers to roam freely, it will be useful and add a bit of polish.For the price, the Phenyx Pro PTU-52-2B delivers solid stability, clarity, and reliability in a crowded wireless environment. The headset microphones in particular exceeded expectations, and this system has earned a permanent place in our wireless arsenal.

I just received the Phenyx Pro PTL 52 wireless microphone system. The unboxing was fine. No extravagant packing materials, but everything arrived in good, operational condition. The receiver was solid, and the rear of the unit contains separate XLR outputs for each mic. It also has a ¼ plug for a combined output. I really liked the display as it is large, bright and easy to read under different lighting conditions. As of this writing, I did not test the unit in direct sunlight. The package came with 1 dual receiver with two detachable antennas, 4 AA batteries, 2 Lav mics, 2 headset mics, AC power adapter, 2 small profile transmitters with belt clips, a 2 ft ¼ to ¼ cable and instruction booklet.Testing: Upon putting the batteries in the transmitters, they pair instantly with the receiver. Changing channels was as simple as pushing the channel change buttons on the front of the transmitter display. Transmitter display was clear. A long press on the top of the transmitter turns it on or off and a short press places the xmiter in ‘mute’ mode. I found this very useful. I did find that pressing the button didn’t always put the unit in mute. I’m not sure if it was me or a design issue. When mute is pressed there is a very small indicator in the upper part of the display. I wish it was bigger as it is hard to see when the unit is clipped to your pants’ waist. For this evaluation I used the headset mics and not the LAVS. The headset was very light and comfortable. When adjusted the position of the mic, place it off to the side so you won’t exhale into the pickup. It is important to note that the transmitter also has a volume control that adjusts the gain of the mic directly without having to readjust the level on the receiver. This is handy and I like it. Mic placement is important as it will tend to over modulate if the pickup is too close to your mouth. The mic boom is very flexible and keeping it in position is easy. Be careful not to bring up the gain too much as you can generate feedback. The sound quality was great. Crystal clear with no dropouts. The transmitter stayed on all night, and I just used the mute switch to control when I was on. In the future I would like to see Phenyx Pro incorporate a small LED in the headset that indicates when the transmitter is muted. That improvement would be awesome. All in all, I was satisfied with the build, sound quality, and performance of the system. For the price, you can’t go wrong.
