Small rig does it again
Small rig doesn’t disappoint, very impressed with this little mic, very hot output with no battery, I like the option to add a second mic and split the channels. Good sound quality, low noise, works great on my Sony a6500. Only minor complaint is the deadcat can’t go on all the way to cover the actual mic element because of where the mount goes but I moved the mount to the back of the mic to slip the deadcat on further

HUGE fan of Smallrig! Very high quality!
This, like other Smallrig products, is of exceptional quality. I tried it out with two different cameras (a Zcam cinema camera and a GoPro Hero 9) and the S20 performed admirably on both. The audio quality is excellent, and the volume level is more than acceptable. I compared it to a Rode VideoMicro, and the Smallrig easily outperforms it. If you want a high-quality mic that won’t break the bank, this is the one to choose. Highly recommended! A+++
Very nice set up cameras work good minor blemishes on casing very nice –

Does not work – maybe I got a lemon?
This cut lil guy just does not record sound. I have decades of experience as a filmmaker so this isn’t a case of not understanding the equipment- this mic simply does not work. I must have got a lemon. I bought my 10yo daughter a digital camera for Christmas and this cut little mic to go with it, but sadly it’s going back to the MFG.Just to make sure I wasn’t crazy I plugged in my professional Sennheiser shotgun mic into her camera and as expected the sound came in loud and clear. With the Small rig I’m just getting a flat line and boosting the levels has no effect. Bummer.I would also add, for anyone still reading- don’t buy into this two microphone gimmick. I didn’t even realize this thing came with a second lav-style mic, but the cord for it is too short for a lav and they’re trying to market it as a “second mic for stereo.” Trust me, that’s total BS, unless you absolutely have to separately mic two things that are three feet apart this is just marketing nonsense. (I kind of like Smallrig as a brand too, but they lost points for this big fail.)

Works great
Does exactly what it says it does. Audio is so crisp

Good sound for the money.
I was uncertain how this microphone would sound for the price, and I can honestly say I’m pleasantly surprised how almost on par it is to a more expensive one I used to own. I knew before purchasing it that it was not stereo unless you used the lav microphone, and this mic does not disappoint. I can’t really give a technical critique of the sound, I just know it does what I need it to do. It’s lightweight, small, and comes with a DeadCat – you have to purchase separate with other brands. I highly recommend purchasing this microphone if you are in the market for one, don’t let the price throw you off, you are getting a quality product. I plan on purchasing another one to record stereo.

Not Stereo
Pros:- Compact size- No battery needed- Cardioid (almost), the sound on the front is louder than on the back- It has additional input for Included Lavalier Mic. Audio constant and loud with Camera preamps (12dB).- Sound quality somewhere is close to Rode VideoMic Me.- Sound is more clear and directional with SmallRig Mic- The Wind Shield (dead cat) is good and easy to put on, and deliver a bit better protection than foam shield- Mic sound doesn’t clip (doesn’t overload) on wind, when connected to camera and has wind shield on- Shock mount is good and helps to cancel camera handling noise- Mounting shoe is easy to slip in and pull out from Canon 80dCons:- It’s cardioid, but still you can hear plenty of noise on background- The Mic IS NOT STEREO! This is a false advertisement! The only stereo you may hear IF YOU CONNECT included Lavalier Mic. Then you will hear and see in Audio editor channel separation (Even included manual says: you have to plug in Lavalier for stereo), HOWEVER, connecting this Lavalier Mic raises Up noise on this Lavalier (right channel). It starts to sound as if you would placed the blow fan right next to Lavalier microphone. and it’s pretty annoying. Use your headphones you will hear it. Of course you may use post production to turn white noise down. But I don’t want to edit every my vacation trip clip, separating audio, editing each channel, bring back together, when you have like 300 clips. Too much work.- Stereo and Mono switch on body of shotgun Mic has no meaning if Stereo can only work when Lavalier is connected and as I mentioned- it has a ton of white noise on Lavalier (right channel), when it’s connected. The only Mono switch can be useful if you connect camera to lavalier mic input and switch to “M” otherwise (if you connect camera on side of Mic to Lav input and switch is on “S”) it will mute your mic and you have no audio recording. Well maybe you may use “M” for interviews also (I didn’t try that).- I tried connection with Android phone 6 different microphones, including Rode VideoMic Me, Audio-Technica PRO 24-cm, Sony Stereo Lavalier Microphone ECMLV1 and three other Mics, using TRS to TRRS adapter. None of them sounded as much distorted as SmallRig S20. There was no distortion when I recorded to camera Canon 80D (TRS to TRS), but there was one, when this Mic was connected to phone through included TRS to TRRS cable. Audio turned out vibrating funny, not usable if you blog.In conclusion:Not Stereo (I’m not going to drag Lav everywhere like pony tail just to reach stereo effect), noisy Lavalier recording, useless for recording to Android phone (Open Camera app). SmallRig S20 does make a difference in recording. Sound is better to compare with Camera built in microphone and even with not loud speaking it can be heard 2 meters away from camera (which has preamps 12dB). If to talk about bass it’s not a tin sound. Sound is about right: not too much and not to little of bass trebles and mids. It’s just not stereo and it is not like COMICA CVM-V30, that is better in terms of behind noise cancellations. So, I’m going to return mine

Suena muy bien para el precio y la entrada para lavalier es una muy buena adición

Good quality, sounds good, would’ve been good if they included a dead cat for the lapel mic instead of just 2 of the same mesh screens
Helly –
Great sound quality that comes with some useful accessories.

Pretty decent little mic. Not bad at all!I use it on a Sony camcorder without any issues.

There isn’t really to much to say on this. It works, and I would be happy to buy this again. I have a more expensive mic of the same type and this performs just as good as the expensive one
